Putney High Street is such a mishmash of signs and neons that
it’s easy to miss this comparatively discreet corner restaurant.
Inside it’s a standard of modern elegance, with polished wood
underfoot, a rich deep red on the walls and acres of white linen
on the tables.  Giuseppe Turi is passionate about food and wine.
Each dish on the menu has a by-the-glass recommendation from
the 300-strong entirely Italian wine list, which opens at £14.
If you choose to go off-piste, the list itself makes fascinating
reading – each bin is carefully annotated with helpful information,
encouraging customers to explore and experiment.
But that’s not to knock the food into second place.  The shortish
menu offers an agreeable selection of Italian country cooking –
vegetable antipasti with a superb fava bean puree is a perennial
favourite, as is pasta with crab and chilli.  Mains might include a
perfectly cooked veal chop, roast rabbit Sicilian-style or pan-fried
halibut.  It’s all well prepared and presented and it pleases the
Putney crowd, who continue to make a bee-line for it above all
other Italians, modern or classical in the area.
